Wounded Warriors Drive Successful

KeyLogic sponsored a successful drive to collect international phone cards for The Wounded Warriors located at Walter Reed Medical Center’s Warrior Transition Brigade. The program supports soldiers recovering from wounds received during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Betty Carey, Program Director and coordinator of the Wounded Warrior Drive, along with two others visited Walter Reed and distributed the more than 300 collected phone cards to soldiers on November 19, 2008. “The Red Cross and Family Support Center greatly appreciated the vast quantity of donated cards,” says Betty. “Because of all the generous donations, we were able to provide cards that averaged between 300 and 550 minutes each. This allows the soldiers to have more time to talk with family members this holiday season.”

During her visit, Betty met with many wounded soldiers. “It truly was an enjoyable and humbling experience. I was in awe of how well they are handling their life-altering experiences, the many surgeries they have to endure, and the amount of physical therapy they have to go through.”

Greeting cards like the one on the right were also distributed along with the phone cards to the Wounded Warriors.

Soldiers will be able to make international phone calls to loved ones who are unable to visit them at Walter Reed during the holidays. Many wounded soldiers may stay at Walter Reed for up to three years for treatment. Some of the soldiers’ families remain in their assigned overseas housing while the soldier recovers.

“Thanks to everyone for their support of this effort. It truly did make a difference in our soldiers’ lives. They loved the cards, but knowing that people care is what brought the smiles to their faces.”
