KeyLogic Externally Appraised at CMMI
Maturity Level 2
KeyLogic has implemented
Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) processes across several
projects within the Knowledge Management Strategic Business Unit. CMMI is
dedicated to process improvement that provides organizations with the
essential elements of effective and repeatable processes. This process helps
to integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process
improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes,
and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.
Our Standard CMMI Appraisal
Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) was successfully submitted on May 8,
2009. The goal of the appraisal process was to assess the capability of
KeyLogic’s processes against an established, industry-recognized model, as
well as to confirm implementation and institutionalization of KeyLogic
processes against the SEI CMMI Maturity Level 2 process areas.
Championing this endeavor
was Bob Reck, with much support from Carey Butler, Sam Hollis, Preston
Prentice, Jeff Johnston, Christine Rueter, Mike Boyle, and Jose Rivera, with
additional corporate support with the Process Improvement Group from Scott
Thesing, George Spencer, Glenn Copen, Ken Bissett, and Jon Hammock.
KeyLogic was assisted
through the CMMI process by iPower LLC, an approved Carnegie Mellon Software
Engineering Institute (SEI) partner who is dedicated to providing cost
effective, on-target strategic and performance management planning services.
KeyLogic’s goal throughout
this process was not simply to receive a positive rating, but to push the
best practices that were developed company-wide. The next steps include
bringing projects from the other two business units, Program Management and
Portfolio and Performance Management, into the CMMI process model and to
then pursue Maturity Level 3.
