KeyLogic Provides
Employees with Hi-Tech Mode of Transportation
KeyLogic has been bringing cutting edge technology to
Morgantown
since 1999. Usually, this is in the form of innovative solutions to their
customers’ business needs. But recently the firm brought something to town
that is just plain FUN!
KeyLogic recently brought the first SegwayTM
Human Transporter to Morgantown. The Segway is a truly
21st-century idea. A two-wheeled electric vehicle that's practical,
efficient, slightly miraculous, and an undeniably fun way of getting around,
it's as different from a bicycle or motorcycle as the original personal
computers were from their lumbering, mainframe predecessors.
Invented by scientist-turned-celebrity Dean Kamen, the Segway was the most
anticipated invention of the last decade. The Segway's performance
lives up to its hype for simplicity and intuitiveness. Lean forward and you
go forward. Lean back and you stop or go into reverse. On the right
surfaces, the ride is as smooth and quiet as if you were standing on a
conveyor belt.
Jon
Hammock, President of KeyLogic, says “We purchased the Segway as much
because it is such an innovative and creative use of technology as we did as
a means of transportation. I think it is a prime example of how
technology can be both an art form and radically change our world for the
better. It’s revolutionary and it is simple at the same time. It
just works. Much in the same way we provide Business Intelligence
solutions to our customers.”
Hammock intends to use the Segway to get others excited about technology,
and to reward those who are already excited about it! “We have an
employee reward program in which the monthly winner gets the use of the
Segway for a period of time.”
KeyLogic’s “Monthly Mover” award is designed to recognize employees who
exhibit innovative, creative thinking and help move the company
forward – much like the Segway. The first award recipient was Dan Marner,
KeyLogic’s Technical Director. Dan was acknowledged for his work in
supporting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). KeyLogic feels
that this environmentally-friendly mode of transportation helps support the
mission of the EPA, KeyLogic’s largest customer.
“So, if you see
someone riding around town on a funny two-wheeled scooter, feel free to stop
me and ask for a demonstration. I am very excited about sharing this
kind of cutting edge technology with Morgantown,” says Marner.
