<p>Artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) are being applied to many oil and gas (O&amp;G) applications and seen as novel techniques that may facilitate efficiency gains in exploration and production operations. Significant improvements in that regard are likely to occur when ML can be applied to evaluate O&amp;G challenges with inherent synergies that may have otherwise not been evaluated concurrently. This study introduces an ensembled framework that couples a data-driven ML predictive model capable estimating a productivity indicator for unconventional O&amp;G horizontal wells that correlates to estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) with a well design optimization approach that maximizes productivity. </p>

<p>This paper evaluates how changes in economic market and policy conditions, including the establishment of a per-unit tax on unabated emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) set equal to estimates of the social cost of carbon (SCC), influence the economics of carbon capture and storage (CCS) for two hypothetical power generation facilities located in the United States. Changes in economic market and policy conditions are evaluated over a series of scenarios in which differences in the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) provide estimates of the financial gap necessary to overcome for CCS to be considered the cost-minimizing choice for each power generation facility type considered.</p>

<p>In this free white paper, we cover Federal and state energy and environmental policies that have the potential to significantly reshape the energy landscape from the local level up to the global level this year. These policies will likely be driven by a number of factors, including:</p>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Initiatives to combat climate change and its impacts</li><li>The need to provide cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable electricity</li><li>Public interest in renewable energy and other clean sources of energy</li><li>Concerns about electric grid reliability in areas of high deployment of variable renewable generation</li><li>Environmental impacts of conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles on local air quality</li></ul>

<p>There is consensus on the importance of upstream methane (CH4) emissions to the life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint of natural gas systems, but inconsistencies among recent studies explain why some researchers calculate a CH4&nbsp;emission rate of less than 1% whereas others calculate a CH4&nbsp;emission rate as high as 10%. These inconsistencies arise from differences in data collection methods, data collection time frames, and system boundaries. This analysis focuses on system boundary inconsistencies. Our results show that the calculated CH4&nbsp;emission rate can increase nearly fourfold not by changing the magnitude of any particular emission source, but by merely changing the portions of the supply chain that are included within the system boundary.</p>
